Effective Governance of Space Institutions

Duration
2 days
Start Date

About the Course

The governance of institutions refers to the regulatory frameworks, policies, and mechanisms put in place to manage activities and operations related to space exploration, utilisation, and management. Effective governance requires awareness of both international agreements,  national regulation and stakeholders in the space ecosystem. At the national level, countries develop their own regulatory frameworks and policies, to govern space activities conducted within their jurisdiction. Companies also have visions, missions and goals.

The governance of outer space institutions is complex and evolving, given the rapid advancements in space technology and the increasing scientific, commercial and  national security space activities. Effective governance requires collaboration among nations, international organisations and the private sector, to ensure the responsible and sustainable use of outer space for the benefit of humanity.

In this course, we will explore how to effectively design and structure organisations in alignment with national space policies/strategies and the mandates of the organisation. Additionally, we will examine strategies for organisations to fulfill their missions, goals and objectives while fulfilling international obligations.

Through engaging discussions and interactive sessions, participants will gain insights into governance issues, stakeholder roles, governance mechanisms and boardroom dynamics. An immersive boardroom simulation exercise will provide a hands-on experience, allowing participants to navigate real-world governance challenges.
