We are happy to announce that Prof. Andrea Harrington (Co-Director of the McGill University’s Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL) and Associate Professor at McGill University’s Faculty of Law) will deliver a keynote at the 1st ASLI Colloquium on the African Outer Space Programme.

The African Outer Space Programme is one of the flagship projects of the African Union (AU). To this end, the African Space Policy and Strategy was developed by the African Union Commission (AUC) and adopted by the African Heads of States and Governments in 2016.

Several other African countries have also developed national space policies and associated national space programmes. One of the key elements in all these policies and programmes is human capital development.

Hence, the theme for the maiden edition of the colloquium series is “Education, Skills Development and Workforce Engagement, for a Responsive, Competitive and Sustainable Space Programme.”

Prof. Harrington will share from her huge experience in international space education. She previously served as Dean of Space Education at Air University for the United States Space Force (USSF); led the establishment of USSF academic programs in Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies; served as Associate Chair for the Policy, Economics, and Law Department for the International Space University’s 2018 Space Studies Program; and has taught several thematic areas of space law in different universities.

The colloquium is scheduled for 21-22 May 2024.
